Perineoplasty

The area between the entrance of the vagina and the anus is called the 'Perineum'. Aesthetic and functional correction of tears in the perineum after vaginal delivery, suture scars due to episiotomy incision repair or skin folds extending from the inner lips to the perineum is called ‘Perineoplasty'. It is often performed simultaneously with vaginal tightening surgeries.
In the perineum, painful sexual intercourse may be encountered due to opening of the sutures after vaginal delivery or poor wound healing. In addition to the  damage due to incisions and tears after vaginal delivery, there may also be damage due to traumas such as bicycle and car accidents. In the perineum, the muscles surrounding the vagina and the anus are combined. Perineal damage can also affect these muscles. There may be complaints of gas and stool incontinence.

'Perineoplasty' is an operation that provides both aesthetic and functional benefits. With this surgery, the external genital area gains a more aesthetic appearance. The distance between the entrance of the vagina and the anus is lengthened, the excess vaginal opening is closed, the tightness at the entrance of the vagina is increased, the angle of the entrance of the vagina is corrected, and if there is a need for muscle repair around the anus, this is also performed. Thus, it is aimed to increase the clitoris and G-spot stimulation during intercourse and the problem of painful sexual intercourse can be eliminated. 

What is perineoplasty? 

Perineoplasty is a surgery in which both aesthetic and functional repair of the perineum is performed by repairing congenital defects of the perineum, and damage due to trauma to the perineum, including vaginal delivery, or removal of the skin folds of the inner lips extending to the perineum. It is often performed simultaneously with vaginal tightening surgeries.

What are the benefits of perineoplasty?

Perineoplasty provides both aesthetic and functional gains in women. Elimination of poorly healing suture scars, making this area flatter and smoother, increasing sexual pleasure and sensitivity in intercourse positively affect the patient's self-confidence and psychology. Am I a suitable candidate for perineoplasty? 

Under 18 years of age, those who want to have a vaginal birth afterwards, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, those with psychiatric illnesses and those with genital infections are not eligible for this operation.  

What are the risks of perineoplasty? 

There may be risks such as bleeding, infection, oedema, early opening of stitches. Proper surgical technique and postoperative care minimise these risks. 

What should I do before the operation?

Hair removal of the external genital area should be done. 

Step by step operation process:

Anaesthesia: General anaesthesia is applied. 

Surgical procedure: Damaged tissues over the tears and stitch scars of the deliveries are removed. The muscle tissues underlying the skin are also repaired. Absorbable very thin suture materials are used for repair.

What should I expect after perineoplasty? 

Pain, swelling, slight bleeding in the form of leakage for a few days and itching in the suture area may be observed. Complaints will decrease over time.

What should I pay attention to after perineoplasty? 

Wound care should be done as recommended by your physician. The first 3 days should be spent resting at home.  The recommended treatment should be followed. Anti-constipation medication should be used for a week. You should pay attention to the cleanliness of the genital area and pay attention to your diet. Also, let us remind you that smoking negatively affects wound healing by impairing oxygenation in tissues. After one week, it is recommended to perform Kegel exercises. These exercises strengthen the pelvic muscles and make the results of the operation more favourable.

How long should I rest after perineoplasty?

Home rest is recommended for one week after perineoplasty. 

When can I start working after perineoplasty?

You can start working on average 1 week after perineoplasty.

How long is the recovery period after perineoplasty? 

The recovery period after perineoplasty is 4-6 weeks on average. You can have intercourse after 6 weeks. 

What are the results of perineum cosmetic surgery? 

Gaining an aesthetic appearance, eliminating functional problems, if any, and ensuring self-confidence are the results of perineoplasty.
